Aloha my wonderful merfolk!
Today, I bring you a candy tasting blog. I have a Disney pen pal who lives in Orlando, Florida. Her name is Sandra and you can find her twitter here. We first began correspondence just over a year ago. The first parcel I received included a lot of American sweet treats (with me having specified no cinnamon as apparently, Americans love the stuff and put it in everything). Me being me however, has never touched these sweet treats until now. Yes, that means that some of these items are past their ‘best before’ dates. Having been a student, I see that as a ball parks worth of time to eat the items. Either that or this blog will get interesting!
This is what I am going to try today for you guys!
So here we go, a first opinion candy tasting blog including some Halloween-y goodies.
Okay, the first treat I am going to try is Peanut Butter M&M’s. I love peanut butter in sweets so for me, this is a brilliant idea. My first opinion of them is that because M&M’s are rather small, there isn’t enough space to put a good helping of peanut butter in there. However, they are really, really nice!
The second item is also peanut butter (you may begin to see a pattern here). Nestle’s Butterfinger. I’ve heard of these treats and I’ve been interested in trying them even though I am not a massive fan of Nestle’s chocolate. Either in transit or having been sat in my room for nearly a year, the 4 cups melted together into one large chocolate bar (not complaining). The chocolate itself is just ok in my opinion, being nestle. The peanut butter in this item is crunchy, which I like. Gives the Butterfinger cups a unique spin.
The next item is a Butterfinger which boasts ‘ crispety, crunchety, peanut butter’. It sure is crunchy and gets stuck to the tops of your molars as you chew. I’m not entirely sure on the texture, it’s like nothing I’ve really eaten yet it reminds me of a British chocolate bar as well, I’m just not sure which one. I think if I lived in America, I would pass on this chocolate bar.
Reese’s Sticks! Now here in the UK they’ve started to sell Reese’s products and have done for a while now. Even in our regular shops and not American Candy stores. I haven’t had the sticks however. These get a thumbs up from me and definitely remind me of something I have eaten before. Perhaps a peanut butter version of a Blue Riband. For those non-UK residents, this is a Blue Riband.
Candy Corn! This is something that isn’t really a massive Halloween treat over here in the UK. We can buy it in specialist American sweet shops but I don’t think I have ever seen it in a regular shop here in the UK. This is M&M’s white chocolate Candy Corn! They are shaped like regular M&M’s but come in white, orange and yellow. They are exceptionally sweet which doesn’t bode well with me as my sweet tooth is pretty much zero half the time. I only ate two and to me, that felt like enough to last me a life time!
The penultimate American candy is this PayDay bar. Another that fell victim to transit heat or the heat of my room over the past summer. This is a king sized peanut and caramel bar. It is literally a block of caramel and peanut butter with pieces of peanut stuck to it. Another incredibly sweet candy bar that I know I would never be able to fully ear.
The final chocolate bar is a Snickers Peanut Butter. Now the UK have brought this out as a limited edition bar this year if I remember correctly. This one however comes in four on the go sized bars, however I have a feeling they are now one big melty Snickers bar. To me this tastes more like a peanut butter Mars Bar as there are no real pieces of peanut that I can feel in this bar of chocolate. I think I would have enjoyed this a lot more had it been the first bar I had tried and not the last.
Overall from trying quite a few types of American candy, my favourite has to be the Peanut M&M’s. Although I stated there wasn’t a lot of peanut butter in them, I feel this may actually be a positive going off the other peanut butter items I tried. My least favourite was the PayDay bar, way too sweet and sickly for my tastes!
What American Candy have you tried? What type is your favourite?
