Alternative Disneybound: Pirates!

Aloha my wonderful merfolk!

Yo-ho, yo-ho, a Pirates life for me! I love Pirates, I find them fascinating. I also find that incorporating aspects of the stereotypical pirate into your wardrobe can give you an awesome Steampunk-esque style!

Today I bring you an Alternative Disneybound based off many a Disney Pirate!

The first Disneybound is Angelica from On Stranger Tides; the fourth in the Pirates of the Caribbean series. This Disneybound is quite simple to do. Take a pair of black skinny jeans, a white gypsy/boho style blouse, a long blazer or tailored jacket and a pair of knee high boots. Team with a large waist belt/cincher/under bust corset and some pirate-esque jewellery.

The Black Pearl. This is one of my favourite Disneybounds in this post as I love blacks and greys together. A pair of black skinny jeans with a floaty grey blouse or a floating grey dress with a pair of black leggings/tights will give the base for your Black Pearl Disneybound. The shoes are your choice but they have to be either black or grey. Add black and pearl accessories with perhaps a few skulls thrown in for good measure. We all love a good skull, don’t we?

Davy Jones brings a very Steampunk aspect to Disneybounding. I have seen many a person dressed in Steampunk attire that is rocking some description of octopus or squid jewellery and accessories. As well as squids, you can use anchors, skulls and studs. Davy Jones is another character that uses mainly blacks and greys. Layer up for this Disneybound with floaty cardigans and jackets on top of blouses and skinny jeans.

Elizabeth Swann has a lot of looks throughout the three films she stars in. If you decide to Disneybound Elizabeth before she is taken aboard the black pearl, then you will need a white or cream dress (with bustle if that is your style), a lacy cardigan, black shoes and pirate gold jewellery. Or, try all black and simply add coin/gold/pirate jewellery.

There is also Elizabeth during what was supposed to be her wedding, just as she is arrested for piracy. It is raining and the mood is quite grey. Dress in all grey from head to toe. Try a plain white vest top, a grey frilled/bustled cardigan, a pair of grey shorts and some grey boots (try Dr Martens or combat boots). Finally, add grey/skull jewellery.

Yo-ho, yo-ho, a pirates life for me. A striped t-shirt or blouse teamed with a pair of denim shorts or jeans is the perfect nautical look for a Disneybounder at sea. Black tights, black spiked combat boots with lots of skulls and sword will pull this outfit together.

Will Turner, the son of old Bootstrap Bill. A pair of black skinny jeans teamed with a wine red blouse will help create your base. If you’re looking for a more steampunk edge, make sure the blouse has ruffles or a bow over the chest area. Team with a fitted black blazer, allowing the bow/ruffles to poke out. A pair of studded ankle boots, or knee high boots with a turnover will help finish off this look. To add that exra bit of flare, add pirate or sword related jewellery.

Zarina; our first and only character not to come from a Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Zarina is from one of the Tinkerbell movies. I haven’t personally seen this one but I think Zarina looks awesome! Again, a boho/gypsy/pirate style blouse is essential for this look. team with a dark blue/green tartan pinafore/skirt/dress and a pair of black boots. these could be ankle boots, knee high boots or thigh high boots depending on your style and preference. Again, accessories can be anything pirate like or sword like. if you’re feeling it, wear a headband or head piece that is similar or reflects the style of Zarina’s.

Finally we have Jack Sparrow … I mean, Captain Jack Sparrow. A lot of these pirate Disneybound ideas can use the same staple items over and over. A pair of black skinny jeans, a white pirate/gypsy blouse and a black cardigan or waistcoat. A pair of buckled combat boots and any pirate or Jack inspired jewellery you can find will give this Disneybound the finishing touches. If you wish to do a more femme Steampunk version of Captain Jack Sparrow, team a frilled white blouse with a black or brown bustled skirt. If the leg is exposed, wear a pair of holed or striped tights with a pair of heeled combat boots. A little pirate hat fascinator with cogs or goggles attached will give the final bit of Steampunk goodness to the Disneybound.

What do you think of pirates? Do you enjoy the Steampunk subcultures clothing style? Would you wear any Steampunk items?
