Why I’m Still Here is One of My Favourite Disney Songs

Aloha my wonderful merfolk!

Treasure Planet is one of those Disney films that has a background soundtrack but none of the characters have their own songs. During the Post-Renaissance era, this was common place as Disney wanted to sway away from their regular formula.

Today, I want to discuss why I’m Still Here from the Treasure Planet soundtrack is one of my favourite Disney songs.

38. Treasure Planet

I’m Still Here was written and performed by John Rzeznik, who fronts the band The Goo Goo Dolls. These are a band I can really appreciate and Iris is one of my all time favourite songs. His voice is incredible and really lends itself to this song.

This type of music is very different for a Disney film. It’s rock and it’s gritty and it reflects the struggles that Jim is going through as he transitions from rebellious teenager to adventurer. He is following his dream and finding out along the way that it was never going to be easy. He has many feelings to contend with but he fights through it.

I listen to Disney songs a lot but this is one would fit in with my usual music taste and selection of music. Anyone who didn’t know it was Disney may simply think it’s just a Goo Goo Dolls track. That is why I love this song so much. It’s not like your regular Disney song and for that it has a place in my heart.

An underrated song for an underrated movie.
