Aloha my wonderful merfolk!
I spoke earlier this week about how Wreck-It Ralph is an underrated gem and needed more love and attention. Well, it did in some form. You may not see a lot of official merchandise for the film or characters roaming the parks (correct me if I’m wrong on the latter), but, a song from the movie has a very special job to do!
When Can I See You Again plays during the credits of Wreck-It Ralph and was recorded by Owl City. It’s a very upbeat and happy song and once you hear it it’ll be stuck in your head for a very long time.
On October 1st 2014, Paint the Night debuted in Hong Kong Disneyland. It was te first Walt Disney Parks and Resort to have created a fully LED parade and featured seven original floats containing over 740,000 individual lights. The Hong Kong version of this parade contains parade units called Tinkerbell and Friends, Monsters Inc Dance Party, Cars Electric Roadway Jam, The Little Mermaid Electric Watercolours, Belles Candlelit Dreams, Toy Story Electric Rodeo and Mickey and Friends Lightastic Finale. They make their way down Main Street to a Cantonese arrangement of When Can I See You Again by Owl City.
I love this version of the song. Even though I don’t speak Cantonese, I find it really enjoyable.
Paint the Night opened on May 22nd 2015 as part of Disneylands Diamond Celebration. This was to commemorate the parks 60th anniversary. This version of the parade utilizes over 1.5 million LED lights, special effects and features 76 performers. This version of the parade was inspired by the Main Street Electrical Parade. Like the Hong Kong version, the parade jointly features arrangements of Jean-Jacques Perrey and Gershon Kingsley’s Baroque Hoedown and Owl City’s When Will I See You Again. This version, now in English, features new lyrics for the parade along with vocals and arrangemet by Adam Young of Owl City.
The Disneyland version of the parade is slightly different to its Hong Kong counterpart and includes new floats. the Disneyland version contains the following parade units; Peter Pan and drum unit, Monsters Inc Dance Party, Cars Electric Roadway Jam, The Little Mermaid Electric Watercolours, Toy Story Electric Rodeo, Candleight Dreams featuring Belle, Rapunzel and Cinderella, Frozen Fractals, Mickey’s Lightastic Finale.
